Feel Your Life

I have many clients and students who call many times to say, how do I stop feeling this? Or I hear I have felt grief or sadness and I am trying to stay positive so how do I stop this?

First of all, we want to feel our feelings. That is why we are here, to have experiences on this wonderful planet. ALL feelings are valid and part of the journey. It is essential to FEEL all of our experiences for this is how we grow and learn from them. It is about walking through the feelings, NOT stopping the feelings. When we might be concerned is when we get stuck in a feeling because then we are not walking through it. When we do not walk through the feeling, we get stuck. So, the question is how can I best walk through this emotion or emotions and learn all I can from it?

Many get confused when they are working on being positive by judging any other feelings that come up in them will create more hurt or negative. If we stuff those feelings or ignore them with the belief that being positive is to push aside our feelings, we are in actuality then creating more of that stuffed feeling to visit us in our lives. What you resist will persist. In order to live a happy and joyful (positive) life, we must walk through our feelings and with no judgment, just acceptance. To walk through them is to first acknowledge them, be ok that you are having that feeling and then work with the feeling.

When I say work with the feeling, I mean to feel it and then ask inside, what is it that makes me feel like this? What lesson is this feeling bringing to me, what is the message? What steps can I take to work through it and to transmute this in my life?

It is like when we get aches in pains in our body it is giving us early clues and messages for our body. Emotions are also talking to us about our emotional health. So feelings are giving you a heads up to look inside and see what we need to nurture and take care of to be emotionally healthy. This is inner healing work that will lead to having more positive into your life, not ignoring them. Ignoring them or stuffing them will create more incidents in your life to feel it again because it is saying acknowledge this and pay attention; something inside me is going on and needs healing.

On the other side of this, when we have joyous feelings, whether for a short glimpse or long term feeling of joy, acknowledge those too and give them as much as attention as you do when you do not like  feeling. It is funny how people pay attention more so to the hurt then to the joy. It reminds me of when a child gets disciplined and some parents make the restriction all day or a week. They have pumped that one “thing” that happened and now has put energy for it to continue for a whole day or a week. Yet when a child does something wonderful we praise it and then drop it instead of giving it energy that is a whole day or a week. Imagine what might happen if unwanted behavior had a consequence but brief attention to it and positive behavior received tons of attention?

Try it out and every time you have joy, fill it up and see how long you continue to focus on the event that made you feel joyous. You will be surprised.

I have a particular picture of my grand children that just always made me smile no matter what. For a long time I had it on the flip side of my visor in the car. Every time I put the visor down it was in my face and the feeling magnified all over again. The moment that the picture was taken I had a fleeting feeling of joy and now I continue to have it years later by bringing my attention back to it.

All feelings are valid and are a language of our inner self talking to us. Every emotion just wants to be acknowledged and loved and nurtured. Pay attention to all of your feelings and embrace them with love and understanding and know it is a part of you communicating to you. Listen deeply and with honor and respect and then walk through what that feeling is saying to you. This will bring more positive into your life. Blessings to all!!

Wow…that says a lot about how I feel at work.

People here spend so much time focusing on the negative side of things. When a positive happens, it is here and gone, but the negative remains for a long, long time. I end up spending all my energy and resources fighting the negative push or trying to transmute it and just end up exhausted at the end of the day!

I feel like I walk through fire all week, but the flip side to that is I am purified…right? LOL

I hope you relish more time in the positive :) As for the negative ones everyday at work, feel them and see the message and walk through, even if you have to go to the restroom to take huge deep breaths :)

Thank you…I am working on it.

I was thinking that this might be a karmic lesson between us on how to work with certain people. You know, me on how to work with people who are professional all the time, never turn it off and seem like they have no emotions & her to work with people who are overly emotional and feel everything as it happens. LOL

Live in the moment damnit! ha ha ha
